I recently called in to my doctor for a prescription refill on my allergy medication. To which they told me, “You’ll need to come in, the last time we saw you was 2014.” I was like…
Then I thought about it. I haven’t really been sick in years. I guess they were right and I pondered how this could be? A-ha! The Wellness Trifecta!
The Wellness Trifecta, or my “witchcraft” as my husband calls it, is a carefully curated triplet of herbal supplements that I take upon the first signs of a throat tickle or a stuffy nose. It wards off illness before it takes hold, but you MUST take it at the absolute first physical symptom of any immune imbalance. Below is the magical list that makes up The Wellness Trifecta.
- Wellness Formula – Source Naturals
Wellness Formula supports your immune system. The capsules (make sure you get the capsules and not the tablets as the tablets taste like total ass) “contains a powerful combination of herbs, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals formulated to boost your well-being.” The most concentrated ingredients are garlic bulb, bee propolis, echinacea, elderberry, and olive leaf extract. I’m not sure what all those do, but it sounds herb-ally authoritative and for me, it WORKS**.
- Buffered Vitamin C – 365
Vitamin C is known for it’s properties to help fight against colds and other illnesses. While regular Vitamin C supplements can be highly acidic and can cause tummy troubles in sensitive individuals, Buffered vitamin C, which is mixed with magnesium, calcium, or potassium ascorbate, is often much more gentle on the system and is known to provide a longer-lasting effect.
- Original Sambucas Elderberry Lozenge – Natures Way
This Elderberry lozenge will both keep you healthy and take you back to a simpler time in your life; The 80’s. Sucking on this lozenge leaves you with “purple tongue” just like when you licked on your Charms grape Blow Pop as your Teddy Ruxpin told you a story. Benefits of the Elderberry plant include improving colds, the flu, allergies, sinus problems, and inflammation. “When used within the first 48 hours of onset of symptoms, the extract has actually been found to reduce the duration of the flu with symptoms being relieved on an average of four days earlier.” Also packed with skin-loving anti-oxidants, some people believe that Elderberry is actually The Fountain of Youth. Added bonus.
My doses are 3 Wellness Formula, 2 Vitamin C, and 1 Elderberry lozenge twice a day.
** Full Disclosure Disclaimer: When I started writing this, I thought to myself, “I hope I don’t jinx myself.” Low and behold, 2 days later I woke up with a bit of a sore throat. I’m on my honeymoon at the fabulous One & Only La Palmilla in Los Cabos, Mexico and I always travel with a mini-dose of my magic potion. I did my best to stave it off with what little supplies I had. Alas, it did not take hold and I woke up the next day full-blown sick. I had chills, fever, burning chest, cough, and a major sore throat. Knowing I had to nip it in the bud, we called upon the staff doctor here on the resort. He looked at my throat and says in a low tone, “OOOOOh, yeah.” It was gnarly. He said he could give magical shot that would have me feeling better the next day. Yes, please.
I asked “Where does the shot have to be?”
He said, “In your butt, like a baby.”
I hate needles and I got really nervous. He laid me down on the bed and I had my head down so I could not see. He said, “Tell me when your ready.”
I said, “No, no, I don’t want to know. Just do it whenever. I’ll be too tense if I know when it’s coming.”
Little did I know, he wasn’t asking ME to let him know when I was ready, he was asking MY HUSBAND to let him know when HE was ready. Ready to take a picture! I didn’t know that the hubs had his camera ready to rock and I certainly didn’t know that my medical professional would mug for the camera like THIS:
Look closely and you can see the syringe ready for the plunge.
Moral of the story: Herbs don’t always cut it and don’t trust your husband to not take pictures when you get an ass shot from a Mexican doctor. But hey, I’ll take not getting sick for 3 years and I can also admit when funny is funny, even if it’s a little embarassing.
Stay Well, My Friends.
