I have expensive taste but I am a Cheap Girl at Heart. Discounts make my heart sing and paying full retail makes me angry. I have a cute-to-expense ratio that I use while shopping. Let’s say I see a sequin blazer and it’s on sale, YAY! I put it on my body and if it’s a “yes,” I check out the price. It used to be $325 and is discounted to $250. Yeah, okay, that’s better, but unfortunately it’s s not “$250 cute.” It’s only “$150 cute, so for that, I’d take it. But since it’s not, I put it back. Easy as that. It’s pretty scientific, my cute-to-expense ratio.
I love to find less expensive alternatives to designer or brand name goodies. When I find deals where you are hard-pressed to spot a difference between the authentic vs. the copycat, I am one happy gal. Let me share a few of my favorite Cheap Girl at Heart finds with you!
- The Cheapest Orgasm
Nars makes a blush that goes by the name of Orgasm. This has been a top seller for them and voted as the best blush by Allure magazine for years. Their colorful claim to fame is that this hue is the perfect rosy cheek flush that happens when, you know, have a successful romp in the sack with your mate. Well, I have found it’s twinsie and it’s perfection! Wet n Wild Color Icon blush in Pearlescent Pink. It’s a glorious shade for all skin types and priced right at $2.99 vs. $30.00 for the Nars version – it’s a Cheap Girl at Heart no brainer! Stop it, you’re making me blush 😊
2. J Crew Jewelry Heist
I love me some J.Crew jewelry, it’s pretty and edgy at the same time. But their accessories can bear big-ticket prices and I have found a brilliant alternative; a site called Dress Lily – it’s your new bauble BFF. It takes some time to sort through their vast collection and there is a lot of crap, but when you find the good stuff it’s exhilarating. Their prices are insanely low and you can walk away with 10 items for the price of 1 snazzy J Crew necklace. I kid you not. The earrings on the left are from Dress Lily and on the right, from J.Crew. There is a slight color and length difference, but it’s the same earring and more importantly, it’s the same quality! And at $7.00 compared to $46.00, I’ll take it! Brand name retail markup = highway robbery at it’s finest 😕
3. Oil Slick Steal
Marula oil has been around for a bit and has become a big trend in facial products. One brand that really cornered the market is Marula Pure Beauty Products. Their version is called Pure Marula Facial Oil. It’s a great product, but I think the reason that they have risen to the top is because they were lucky enough to snatch the rights to use the Marula name as their company header. I have used it and I love it, but this product will run you about $58-78 bucks, depending on the bottle size. I let my thriftiness lead me to an even better oil (for my skin) that costs a fraction of the brand name price. Acure Organics Marula Oil is my jam. I saw a much bigger improvement to my skin with consistent usage and a 1 ounce bottle is $15.99. You can even find it a little cheaper on Amazon. Now go on, get glowing while your wallet be growing!
I hope you find my Cheap Girl at Heart tips to be useful. I have many more I want to share with you! Stay tuned…
